Bringing a new puppy home is exciting! It is also a lot of work :) Do not lose heart - your consistency, dedication and vigilance in the beginning will pay off!

The Humane Society has a great article for house training puppies. You can read the entire article here. Generally speaking, a puppy can control his bladder one hour for every month of age. The basic elements of house training are:

1. Establish a routine - puppies are like newborns!
2. Take your puppy outside frequently - about every 2 hours the first month.
3. Pick a bathroom spot outside.
4. Reward your puppy when he eliminates outside.
5. Put your puppy on a regular feeding schedule.
6. Pick up your puppies water dish about 2 1/2 hours before bedtime.
7. Supervise your puppy while he is indoors.
8. Confine your puppy when you are unable to supervise him.
9. Expect a few accidents in the beginning.
10. Enjoy your puppy! He will grow up too quickly ;)
