Did you know it is possible for a German Shepherd puppy's ears to go up and down several times in the first few months? Floppy ears are common while the puppy is teething, which usually ends around 16-20 weeks old. After 20 weeks the cartilage is usually strong enough to stand permanently. Before the ears are established it is important to treat them with care and not handle them excessively, which could damage the cartilage. During the teething months you may see a puppy's ears going up naturally for a day or two, or when he barks or gets excited. Sometimes one ears stands erect while the other remains floppy! Blau is four weeks old and the first one to have his ears stand up - apparently he wants to stand out from his eleven brothers and sisters. :)
